We’re really enjoying ourselves and finding our way from town to town is going just fine. Finding our way in how we manage things is a learning process. We’ve discovered that it’s not always convenient to find internet access when we want and that Joel’s laptop batteries aren’t worth much. So we’ll have to find a way to get better batteries or something.
At the moment we’re at a Borders Book Store in Tacoma WA. We had a wonderful breakfast made by Jenny Fisher in Hoquiam – potatoes, sausage, fresh fruit. Thank you Jenny for your hospitality! I’ve caught up on the most important stuff. Fiona found a book or two to read quietly in the book store while mommy and daddy work on our laptops. Actually Joel’s getting ready to have his over-size cup of Chamomile tea from the Seattle’s Best Coffee shop. He needs it to relax after the frustrations of his laptop batteries dying.

It’s gorgeous! Sunny but not too warm and a very nice breeze. We just got back from swimming at the Y! Later we’ll take a little walk. We got a very good night’s sleep and had Joel’s ‘world-famous’ pancakes for brunch. Fiona’s made new friends – Nels and Phoenix. What a wonderfully relaxing day.
We’ll keep you posted on the adventures of the Canfield Family now in Hoquiam Washington with the Hogaboom family.

We actually drove away from the house at 10:41 pm. Our first stop was to the local store to pick up something to drink for Fiona and Frappuccino’s for Joel to help him stay awake for the all night drive. It’s amazing that we fit so much stuff in the van and nearly every piece of musical equipment we own. We even took Fiona’s school books, though school doesn’t start till August 23. And 5 bottles of paint for Fiona’s art -painting Caitlyn’s ceiling in Canada.
It’s nearly a full moon and Fiona wants to write the moon a letter to say thank you for shining on our favorite trip ever.

Fiona has an older grown sister, Rachelle. Rachelle was at Fiona’s birth and is like a second mother to her since there’s a 16-year age difference. In fact four years ago when mommy ended up in the hospital for four month, Rachelle really took over as then 2-year old Fiona’s surrogate mommy. So they are very close. They’ve shared a room since Fiona was a baby. If Rachelle isn’t home when Fiona’s ready for bed, she doesn’t want to go to bed yet.
We”re about to leave in a couple of days to head first for Oregon and no, Rachelle is not coming with us. She’s all grown up with a job and can’t just take off. This will be the first time that Fiona and Rachelle have been separated for such a long period of time since Fiona was a baby. Of course they’ll stay in touch by phone, email, Skype, and Facebook. They’ll still miss each other.

We’ll be in Vancouver from August 2, 2010 through…near the end of August. If you’d like to meet Joel, Sue and Fiona, it’s our plan to visit the Waves Coffee Houses in Vancouver while we’re there in August. We’ll keep you posted as to which ones we’ll be in and on what days. It looks like [...]

The best of plans sometimes have to change. We just found out this morning that our lodging accommodations in Portland, Oregon next week fell through. Due to an unforeseen family need, the wonderful family that were going to let us stay with them in return for our coaching services are unable to do so.
That leaves us without a place to lodge for a night or two. We have lodging in Washington on Saturday, July 31. We’d hoped to arrive late in the day in Portland July 29th and stay that night and July 30th with the family in Portland, leaving their place mid-day Saturday. If necessary, we can drive all day Friday, July 30th, stay a night in Portland and leave Saturday for Washington.

We went to a client’s house yesterday, who is also a friend, and while Joel and I were working with the client in her office, Fiona got a special project to work on. To keep her occupied she agreed to do some sorting for our client. She needed all the papers from envelopes removed and then two piles created – one for the envelopes and one for the papers. She eventually was going to shred all the papers.
Fiona was very excited about this project and even got to use a small envelope opener. By the time she was done she had a HUGE pile! Originally we had negotiated that the project would net her 4 quarters. But after working for about an hour we renegotiated an additional 5 quarters. In the end she ended up with 12 quarters because she did such a great job.

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? In 11 days (love that new countdown over there in the right sidebar) we’ll leave for Canada. The first overnight stop will be in Portland, Oregon – a-10 hour drive from here. Does anyone know how many times a six-year old can say ‘are we there yet?‘ in a 10-hour period?
So we need some suggestions for great road games to help her keep her mind occupied. Remember, she’s not your average six-year old. She’s much more likely to play these games is she knows her ‘fans’ are suggesting the ideas and watching to see how it all turns out. In fact, we’ll write a blog post about how the games go. She’ll love that. Especially if we post something about it also at her 900 Funny Thoughts blog.
