Pre-Wedding Day Jitters

No, I’m not getting married. Our daughter Rachelle gets married tomorrow. She’s the first of our 7 children to get married. (There are 4 older than her, one nearly 30, not yet married).

So I’m the mother-of-the-bride and I have pre-wedding day jitters. Not only is my daughter getting married, our younger daughter is the flower girl so I have the jitters about her doing the right thing. She’s very strong-minded and may want to skip down the aisle for all I know. No, I’m sure she’ll behave.

Also, everyone has had colds, even the bride. So we may all be coughing and sneezing and sniffling. No, I’m sure we won’t.

Then there’s the weather. It’s nearly spring and it’s been raining like crazy and is supposed to continue.

And of course there’s the whole issue of seeing my daughter’s dad and interacting with him and his family again. It will be fine.

It will be fine. All will go great!

Can any of you who have had daughters get married sympathize? Any wise words of advice? Thank you!

  1. Awww… My oldest is only 15, so I don’t have that experience but I think you will be just fine! You and your husband both seem like such kind people, and no matter how things go behind the scenes, I’m sure your daughter will remember everything beautifully!

  2. Thanks Colleen. I remember like yesterday when Rachelle was 15…and I was teaching her to drive. I appreciate your kind words. And yes, I know it will all go just perfectly!

  3. Sue everything will be fine. The day will go off without a hitch (no pun intended lol). Fiona is a very smart little girl and she will know the importance of the day. I’m sure she loves her sister enough to do the best she can. As far as Rachelle’s dad and his family that will go well too. I have serious issues with s/o’s oldest daughters mother but if it all came down to it I would be so happy for the girls that everyone they love is able to be there to share their day. Just keep thinking about how happy your daughter would be to look and see everyone that she loves is there to support her, even if they don’t all love each other lol. And when its all said and done-have a few drinks, get out on the dance floor and let loose!!! Hugs to all of you and congratulations!

  4. Thank you Julie. I appreciate all your words of wisdom.

If I could only have a glass of wine to calm my nerves – unfortunately the health issue I nearly died from a few years ago prevents me from ever drinking again – if i don’t want to have serious health issues and possibly die.

Take care and say hi to Ian from all of us!

  5. By now, everyone has done what they came to do. I’m betting there are parts that went better, and that you felt more deeply than you ever imagined.

At my son’s wedding, I think I finally forgave his dad at a deeper level – and appreciated how hard he worked to be kind to me and to support our son on such a special day. Maybe you had some steps in that direction, too.

  6. Thank you Caitlyn. It all went very well. I’m completely exhausted, physically and emotionally, and once I have some time to let it all sink in I’ll write about how I feel. Because I’m not sure what it is I feel right now other than relief. I’ll also post some pics soon! :)
