Puppies in Nebraska

After an overnight stay in Colorado Springs with Couchsurfing hosts John and Chris, we traveled to Ogallala Nebraska where we stayed with other Couchsurfing hosts with puppies. Fiona loved seeing the three-week old puppies.

Today we traveled through Nebraska to South Dakota. Driving north through Nebraska we stopped at the Missouri River. Fiona dangled her feet in the water and loved it! I too think I love that area. It’s on the list of possibilities for future residence. Particularly the area of Valentine.

Max and Maddie the Mini Australian Shepherds

This past weekend we stayed overnight in Colorado Springs with Couch Surfers Chris and John Orsborn. They have two one-year old mini Australian Shepherds, Max and Maddie (sisters). They greeted us warmly as we came in. Fiona’s been a bit nervous about dogs but she finally got down with them and before long was right at home, as you can see. We’re quite familiar with this type of dog as Joel’s sister Lynn has been raising them for years.

Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs

Last Saturday we drove from Albuquerque to Colorado Springs before landing in Longmont for our two week house sitting job starting Sunday. We stayed Saturday night with a wonderful couple, John and Chris, that we found on CouchSurfing.org. Fiona enjoyed playing with the neighbor’s children on Sunday morning, especially with the little girl and her little princess walkie-talkies. Fiona had so much fun she fell down and scraped her elbow. That part wasn’t fun.

When we had told Rita (who we’d be house sitting for in Longont) that we were stopping off in Colorado Springs, she said we should see Garden of the Gods. So Sunday early afternoon we did just that. Of course as soon as we got to the visitor center it started to rain. We got a few pictures before it completely poured.

Memories of My Grandma

Today we drove through Nebraska. Which reminds me of my grandma since she lived much of her youth here. She was actually born in Kansas but at some point moved to Nebraska. She’s been gone for several years so I can’t ask her about it and never did find out much about her family when she was alive. Even my mom doesn’t know much and there’s no one else alive to tell me anything. One day I should try to do some research.

Today my daughter also posted on her blog something she wrote the last time she visited her great-grandma before she died. I loved my grandma very much and miss her. Fiona is the only great-grandchild she never got to meet.

Grandma lived a long, good life. She was just a few months short of 98 when she died. I have fond memories of spending the night with her, watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights, going out to eat at IHOP. She was a grand lady in her own way and I think I have much of her in me. Fiona got her fingernails though. :)
