Fiona’s Newest Post on Her Blog

Fiona has been writing a blog since June 2009 – her funny thoughts. She’d like to share her newest post and requests “Comments please!” She loves comments. So while the rest of us are busy working on our blogs, why not take a few minutes to check out Foona’s Nine Hundred Funny Thoughts and her newest post “Qwert me!” Thank you all!

Fiona Needs More Rooms

Yes, ‘rooms’, plural.

As I was making lunch she sat at the counter telling me about how boring our house is.

“I’ve seen every room in the house, and no matter how many times I look, there aren’t any new rooms. I wish we could add two hundred million more rooms so I wouldn’t be bored.”

Two hundred million is her favorite (or at least most-referenced) number lately.

The little one, like her Daddy, seems to thrive on constant stimulation. She’s infinitely curious, which is probably the source of her voracious reading.

Now she needs more rooms.

Maybe you can help?

Where We’re Going, Metaphorically Speaking

I’m feeling fairly squished and tentative today, but I’m going to soldier on and share the goals Sue and I talked about Tuesday night when we couldn’t sleep.

We realized that what was important to us was not what we had or did, but what this gave Fiona, so our goals are based on that.

Subject to change upon discovery, and all the other usual disclaimers apply:

We want to be living without a house or car before Fiona turns 7 in March of 2011, and before she turns 10, she will have slept and eaten in a private home on all six of the accessible continents.

I’m leaving out Antarctica, partly because it’s dangerous and spectacularly difficult to get there, but primarily because there is no culture for her to absorb, no new human understanding for a small child there.

We thought the criteria of eating and sleeping in a private home would be a simple thing to measure, and the right thing to measure. Did she experience a slice of real life with everyday people? That’s all we’re hoping for right now.

Streamlining, Paring, Tossing and We have to go!

So I’ve been working on streamlining our possessions. I’ve pared down the clothing quite a bit, tossed a bunch of trash, took 12 bags of clothing to Goodwill today. There’s lots more to go. I’ve been holding on to clothing for years that no longer fit or are worn or that don’t have as much sentimental value as I thought. Gone!

Fiona, our six-year old, is very excited about going to Canada for our trip in August. She knows it’s still tentative for a little while longer. She also knows we’ll be staying with a family that have a dog and Fiona says, “We have to go!” She wants to take care of the dog.

Don’t let Fiona down! Help her get to Canada to take care of the doggie. :)
